100 years ago, World War One ended. Many of our ancestors paid the ultimate price in the Great War. An estimated nine million combatants and seven million civilians died as a direct result of the war. It was bloody and brutal.
Today, we remember.

The Face of History
To commemorate 100 years since WW1 and help us see into history, Historial de la Grande Guerre in Péronne, France collected tens of thousands of portraits and then used an algorithm to make up one unique face: “THE UNKNOWN FACE”, human and universal, which is now available to museum visitors.
Nearly 10 months of work were necessary to bring this ambitious project to life, combining technology and the duty of memory in the service of peace.
The algorithm specially developed for the purpose of creating faithful face synthesis will allow this face to evolve over time according to the portraits that will continue to be collected from the archives.
Spreading the Good Word
The marketing campaign to promote the new digital media installation was made by FF Creative (formerly Fred & Farid).
To extend the experience offered in the museum to a larger audience and share the message of peace that it embodies, the agency created www.theunknownface.com.
In related news, Donald Trump was in France to mark the centenary of World War One’s end, but he cancelled a visit to a US military cemetery because it was raining.
