Therefore, I want to like Century Link, but a print ad like this subtracts several points from the &#8220;brand love&#8221; scorecard. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/adpulp.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/bad-print-ad.jpg\" alt=\"bad print ad\" width=\"700\" height=\"848\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20772\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.adpulp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/bad-print-ad.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.adpulp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/bad-print-ad-247x300.jpg 247w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Worse than the say-nothing-to-no-one use of stock photography here, are phrases like &#8220;visionary cloud infrastructure&#8221; and &#8220;hosted IT solutions.&#8221; This copy is dead on arrival. <\/p>\n<p>Sure, somebody somewhere does care about such things. Send these very fine buyers direct mail. When you opt to run a magazine ad or a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=1uqoxDY5_3k\">TV spot<\/a>, you&#8217;re speaking to a mass consumer audience who has little knowledge of, or concern for, your visionary cloud infrastructure and hosted IT solutions.<\/p>\n<p>In this case, the problem is even worse given that Century Link is also a consumer brand, providing broadband, entertainment and voice services to millions of consumers across the U.S. <\/p>\n<p>Say you are watching NFL football and you see this B2B spot:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1uqoxDY5_3k\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Now compare and contrast the above with the following consumer offering?<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qdN20RBo5eQ\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The consumer spot appeals to me. <em>What will<\/em> I do with my gig?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My favorite NFL team plays home games at Century Link Field.
