The disease is spreading fast, the death toll is on the rise, and people all over the Earth are &#8220;sheltering in place.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a scary, difficult situation for everyone, but thankfully some people and some companies have immense resources, which they&#8217;re willing to use for the public good.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-32783\" src=\"https:\/\/adpulp.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Off-air-603x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"603\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.adpulp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Off-air-603x1024.jpg 603w, https:\/\/www.adpulp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Off-air-177x300.jpg 177w, https:\/\/www.adpulp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Off-air-768x1305.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.adpulp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Off-air-904x1536.jpg 904w, https:\/\/www.adpulp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Off-air.jpg 982w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 603px) 100vw, 603px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmanetwork.com\/news\/money\/companies\/730562\/coca-cola-philippines-re-channels-p150m-advertising-budget-for-covid-19-response\/story\/\">Coca-Cola Philippines<\/a> has decided that all commercial advertising of Coca-Cola and all our brands in the country will be put on hold, effective immediately,\u201d Coca-Cola Philippines president and general manager <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/feed\/update\/urn:li:activity:6646716050757033984\/\">Winn Everhart<\/a> said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll our committed advertising space and budgets will be redirected towards supporting COVID-19 relief and response efforts for the most affected communities.\u201d Coca-Cola Philippines spends $P150-million per year on advertising.<\/p>\n<p>These funds are now being re-channeled to provide hydration needs, personal protective equipment, and other essential needs to healthcare workers and others on the frontline.<\/p>\n<h2>In Brazil, A McMonstrosity<\/h2>\n<p>I worked for a creative director once who was emotionally dumb, but smart in other ways. He said to me, &#8220;Smart is better than clever.&#8221; That stuck. It&#8217;s not smart to violate the brand&#8217;s logo standards. It&#8217;s also not smart to be cute in a time of trouble and despair.<\/p>\n<p>The clever move, in this case, is also an obvious plea for an industry award. &#8220;Oh look, they separated the Golden Arches, how clever,&#8221; the award show judge will one day say.<\/p>\n<p>Unless I am the award show judge. Or Ben Kay.
