Edited by Vice Media and <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> alum Marina Garcia-Vasquez, and backed by an editorial board of leaders in technology, media, and design, New_Public is a new hub for individuals imagining and building a more inclusive digital world. <\/p>\n<p>To describe and promote this effort, New_Public released a <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/486589911\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">launch video<\/a> produced by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.civicsignals.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Civic Signals<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lucky-post.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lucky Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/486589911\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Founded in 2019 by Eli Pariser, author of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Filter-Bubble-Personalized-Changing-Think\/dp\/0143121235\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Filter Bubbl<\/em>e<\/a> and co-founder of Upworthy, and Talia Stroud, professor at University of Texas at Austin and founding Director of <a href=\"https:\/\/mediaengagement.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the Center for Media Engagement<\/a>, Civic Signals\u2019 mission is to support the development of more equitable and flourishing digital public spaces. <\/p>\n<p>New_Public aims to draw on learnings from physical public spaces to envision more productive, open, and democratic digital spaces. In an inaugural op-ed with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/to-mend-a-broken-internet-create-online-parks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>WIRED<\/em><\/a>, Eli Pariser explains the links between the design and functions of public parks and digital platforms, and why it is imperative that we look to this history when building more inclusive digital public spaces.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s imperative that we design digital spaces that help us come together &#8212; as communities and as a nation. Thriving societies require flourishing public spaces, and the design of our online spaces greatly shapes our public conversations and sense of national identity,\u201d said Pariser.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the global pandemic continues to keep societies physically distanced, social interactions have increasingly moved online.
