The United States of America survived an attempted coup last Wednesday. The violent insurrection incited by Don Trump could have killed the Vice President, the Speaker of the House, and hundreds more. Instead, five people died, including a police officer who was beaten to death by the mob (there’s video footage of this murder on Twitter, but I will not point to it).<\/p>\n

Naturally, the nation’s corrupt-to-the-core politicians have not eliminated the threat. Thankfully, our business leaders are not nearly so slow, nor as dumb. Twitter and Facebook finally did what they needed to do and took Don’s MAGAphone away.<\/p>\n

Large Corporations Begin to Cut The Strings<\/h2>\n

Citigroup confirmed Sunday that it is pausing all federal political donations for the first three months of the year. Others, such as hotel chain Marriott, are stopping donations only to the 147 Republicans who opposed certifying President-elect Joe Biden\u2019s election<\/a>. This group includes eight US Senators and 139 US Representatives\u2014all of whom must be recalled for their role in the failed coup attempt.<\/p>\n

In a memo to employees Friday, Citi\u2019s head of global government affairs, Candi Wolff, said that \u201cwe want you to be assured that we will not support candidates who do not respect the rule of law.\u201d<\/p>\n

Citi says it is pausing all<\/em> federal contributions. Boston Scientific, a maker of medical devices, said Sunday that it is doing the same while it reviews its approach to political contributions. The company said it believes in \u201crespecting the integrity of the democratic process, the election outcome and the peaceful transition of power.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marriott said Sunday<\/a> that it is considering \u201cthe destructive events at the Capitol to undermine a legitimate and fair election\u201d and will pause political donations to those who voted against Biden\u2019s certification as president-elect.<\/p>\n

DC Area Hotels Caught In the Fray<\/h2>\n

Marriott was smart to move swiftly and distance themselves from the 147 elected officials who do not believe in law and order.<\/p>\n

The Grand Hyatt in Washington, DC wasn’t so lucky. Rioters were videoed<\/a> \u2018decompressing\u2019 maskless in the hotel lobby after storming the U.S. Capitol.<\/p>\n

In an update on the Line DC website<\/a>, the property acknowledged that “an altercation had occurred near the hotel property involving Proud Boys and that our guests were involved in the incident.”<\/p>\n
