But before the idea is rejected outright by me or by you, let&#8217;s spend a few minutes imagining a future where employees have much stronger footing and greater standing in their thought-worker-led workplaces.<\/p>\n<h2>Restless Bodies, Active Minds<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ernieschenck2.medium.com\/if-advertising-is-so-great-why-are-we-so-unhappy-25a72e4db6b4\">Ernie Schenck, writing on Medium<\/a>, points to a stat that can not be ignored:<\/p>\n<article class=\"meteredContent\">\n<div>\n<section class=\"dn fi fj di fk\">\n<div class=\"n p\">\n<div class=\"aq ar as at au fl aw w\">\n<blockquote>\n<p id=\"f957\" class=\"ho hp fn hq b hr hs ht hu hv hw hx hy hz ia ib ic id ie if ig ih ii ij ik il dn gj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><mark class=\"rf re it\">A recent C<em>ampaign US<\/em> poll claims that 37% of advertising employees described morale in their shop as \u201clow\u201d or \u201cdangerously low\u201d while 70% said they are \u201cactively job seeking\u201d<\/mark>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<p>Why are people so bummed out at work these days?<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">There&#8217;s not a lot of mystery in this. If you want high morale in your firm, you dedicate yourself to treating people well. You make people go on vacation and suggest that they go home to their families and personal lives by 6:00 each day. Also, pay people well and trust them.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Workers at GPS Impact Join Teamsters<\/h2>\n<p>Workers for <a href=\"http:\/\/gpsimpact.com\">GPS Impact<\/a> will now be represented by the Teamsters Union, after <a href=\"https:\/\/teamsters696.com\/\">Local 696<\/a> in Topeka, Kan. Workers overwhelmingly signed up to become Teamster members, according to Claire Cook-Callen, a senior strategist at GPS Impact for over seven years.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-37151\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adpulp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/logo-black-and-white11-240x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.adpulp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/logo-black-and-white11-240x300.jpg 240w, https:\/\/www.adpulp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/logo-black-and-white11-768x961.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.adpulp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/logo-black-and-white11.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Cook-Callen and her co-workers reached out to Local 696 in July. On August 18, they secured Teamster representation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur management\u2019s decision to voluntarily recognize the GPS employee union reaffirms our entire company\u2019s commitment to the national labor movement and progressive values,\u201d said Hannah J. Smith, a digital strategist at GPS Impact.<\/p>\n<p>GPS Impact is a public affairs and multimedia advertising agency that provides candidates, advocacy groups, and organizations with strategic communications, advertising, and more. GPS currently has offices in Des Moines, Iowa, Kansas City, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<h2>Texas Newspaper Workers Fight for Their Rights<\/h2>\n<p>In July of 2020, journalists at the <i>Dallas Morning News<\/i> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasobserver.org\/dallas-morning-news-union\/\">became<\/a> the first newspaper in Texas to announce they were unionizing in Texas. They were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasobserver.org\/the-year-newspaper-unions-roared-back-to-life-in-texas\/\">followed<\/a> by workers at the <i>Fort Worth Star-Telegram <\/i>and the<i> Austin American-Statesman<\/i>. All decided to join the <a href=\"https:\/\/newsguild.org\/\">NewsGuild<\/a>, part of a growing nationwide trend as journalists fought back against layoffs and corporate predation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasobserver.org\/newspaper-unions-in-texas-fight-for-first-contracts\/?goal=0_975e2d1fa1-d2f52f1cce-34800716&amp;mc_cid=d2f52f1cce&amp;mc_eid=5ee4bfdc0b\"><em>The Texas Observer<\/em><\/a> reports that the newsrooms are now fighting for their first collective bargaining agreements, the contracts that will determine their future working conditions. Often, this is a long and grueling process.
