Right now, the far-right administration in Tallahassee doesn&#8217;t like ads from <a href=\"https:\/\/floridiansprotectingfreedom.com\/censorship-lawsuit\/\">Floridians Protecting Freedom<\/a> and their \u201cYes on 4 Campaign,\u201d a ballot measure that seeks to overturn Florida\u2019s six-week abortion ban.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7jJiEE_AkPA?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hoAVCFQlD28?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The state of Florida\u2019s crusade against Amendment 4 is unconstitutional government interference \u2013 full stop,&#8221; said Lauren Brenzel, Yes on 4 Campaign Director. &#8220;The State cannot coerce television stations into removing political speech from the airwaves in an attempt to keep their abortion ban in place.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/10\/17\/media\/florida-judge-tv-abortion-rights-ad-health\/index.html\">CNN<\/a>, Chief U.S. District Judge Mark E. Walker of the Northern District of Florida granted a temporary restraining order against Florida\u2019s surgeon general last week. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government cannot excuse its indirect censorship of political speech simply by declaring the disfavored speech is \u2018false,\u2019\u201d the judge said in a written opinion. He added, \u201cTo keep it simple for the State of Florida: it\u2019s the First Amendment, stupid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ballot measure is one of nine similar measures across the country, according to <em><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/10\/18\/us-news\/judge-tells-floridas-top-doctor-not-to-threaten-tv-stations-over-abortion-rights-ads\/\">The New York Post<\/a><\/em>. It would require the approval of 60% of voters to be adopted and would override the state law that bans abortion in most cases after the first six weeks of pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p>Across the nation, 24 states\u2014including Texas, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania\u2014do <em><a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/States_without_initiative_or_referendum\">not<\/a><\/em> provide for statewide citizen-initiated ballot measures. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In Texas, the Attorney General&#8217;s office has a nasty habit of using the courts to interfere with citizens groups, churches, and others working for the common good.
