The state wants to encourage film and TV production in the state, and to encourage the state&#8217;s lawmakers, a group of famous actors with ties to Texas have made a video pitch.<\/p>\n<p>Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson reunite in a \u201cTrue Detective\u201d moment in this new ad directed by series creator <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nic_Pizzolatto\">Nic Pizzolato<\/a>. The supporting cast includes Dennis Quaid, Billy Bob Thornton, and Ren\u00e9e Zellweger.<\/p>\n<p>The case the detectives are solving this time is a business case for why making films and TV in Texas is the smart thing to do.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bpgrUK9EGjI?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.khou.com\/article\/news\/entertainment-news\/matthew-mcconaughey-true-to-texas-campaign\/285-2cffe2f4-651e-471a-b1be-a4ba489f60e1\">KHOU<\/a>, the actors want the legislature to pass a bill that would add bigger and better incentives for the film industry, which they say would create thousands of Texas jobs and boost local economies.<\/p>\n<p>McConaughey, who was born in Uvalde and graduated from the University of Texas, is eager to turn Texas into a new hub for film and television.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>There are some great lines in the promotional video that capture the essence of the argument. For example, McConaughey says:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Hollywood, it&#8217;s a flat circle, Wood&#8230;Look, this industry is like somebody&#8217;s memory of an industry, and the memory is fading. I&#8217;m talking about a whole new hub for film and television. A Renaissance. A rebirth.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Texas is an ideal setting for a variety of productions, offering a unique combination of diverse and strikingly original landscapes\u2014ranging from desert terrain, mountains and rolling hills to piney forests, beaches, and densely populated urban centers.<\/p>\n<p>Famous films and TV shows that have been made in Texas include, <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0071206\/?ref_=nv_sr_3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Benji<\/a> <\/i>(1974),\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0061418\/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Bonnie and Clyde<\/em><\/a> (1967), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0077000\/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Dallas<\/em><\/a> (TV Series, 1978-1991), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0119313\/?ref_=nv_sr_1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Hope Floats<\/em><\/a> (1998), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0067328\/?ref_=nv_sr_1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The Last Picture Show<\/em><\/a> (1971), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0074812\/?ref_=nv_sr_1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Logan&#8217;s Run<\/em><\/a> (1976), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0096639\/?ref_=nv_sr_1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Lonesome Dove<\/em><\/a> (TV Mini-Series, 1989), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0151804\/?ref_=nv_sr_1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Office Space<\/em><\/a> (1999), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0087884\/?ref_=nv_sr_1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Paris, Texas<\/em><\/a> (1984) and the list goes on.<\/p>\n<p>The state has a long history of hosting Hollywood productions and a growing studio presence, especially in Central Texas near Austin today. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hillcountry.studio\/\">Hill Country Studios in San Marcos<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/line204.com\/\">Line 204 in Bastrop<\/a> are notable new developments that may eventually employ hundreds of local people.<\/p>\n<p>One of the interesting questions about this pro-industry movement, and the state&#8217;s embrace of it, is how it bumps up squarely against existing anti-Hollywood bias that&#8217;s in place in Texas. Given how distasteful much of the content made in Hollywood is to lawmakers and citizens in the Lone Star State, why open the doors to this industry&#8217;s unholy influence?<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.austinchronicle.com\/daily\/screens\/2025-01-27\/dan-patrick-proposes-massive-boost-for-film-incentives-but-theres-a-catch\/\">The Austin Chronicle<\/a><\/em> (the city&#8217;s alt-weekly) wonders if the state&#8217;s power brokers don&#8217;t have a remake in mind. The paper asks, &#8220;When Lt. Governor Dan Patrick says he wants to make Texas the new Hollywood, does he mean a place where dreams of stardom and big commerce intertwine, or Reliance-Majestic Studios, where notorious racist D.W.
